SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore College men’s lacrosse head coach Tucker Kear has announced the hiring of Marcel Godino as his assistant coach for the upcoming 2018 season. Godino will assist in recruiting, player development, offensive strategy, and scouting, among other tasks.
Godino comes to Saratoga Springs after three seasons as an assistant coach with the Bard men’s lacrosse team. There, he assisted in recruiting, scouting, and game plan efforts for the Raptors. He developed two players at Bard who were honored with All-Liberty League selections over the three seasons.
Prior to Bard, Godino worked with United Lacrosse from 2013-2015 as a coach and camp counselor, teaching basic skills and strategies to kids in the middle and high school levels. Godino also worked as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Summit High School in New Jersey, and has spent three seasons as a coach with the United States Naval Academy Lacrosse Camp. In his spare time, Godino has also worked as a private lacrosse tutor, working with players to help improve their physical and technical skills.
Godino was a four-year starter and three-year captain at Manhattan College, where he played in the midfield. He tallied 85 career points on 55 goals and 30 assists, and snagged 61 career ground balls. He graduated in May of 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. In high school, Godino was a Newark Star Ledger Third Team All-State lacrosse selection at Summit, leading his team to a school record 68-game winning streak and back-to-back New Jersey State Championships.
“During his two years at Bard College, Coach Godino has proven himself to be a tireless worker both on the field as well as the recruiting trail,” said Kear. “We are thrilled to have a guy with such high character and energy joining the staff. Here at Skidmore, we pride ourselves on our positivity and creativity and I think Marcel is going to fit in perfectly to the way we like to do things.” “There is no doubt about his leadership ability, earning Captain for three straight years at Division I Manhattan College. He is the guy who is always doing things the right way, whether or not anyone is looking. I believe he is going to bring his own brand of lacrosse to the offensive side of the ball this year for us and we are ecstatic to get going with this year’s group and see how far we can go together.”
Godino, originally from New Jersey, currently resides in Saratoga Springs. His brother, Jules, played lacrosse and was a team captain at the United States Naval Academy.
