TROY, N.Y. >> A trio of incumbents highlight the slate of City Council candidates formally unveiled Monday by the city Republican Committee.

Council President Carmella Mantello, as well as District 1 representative Jim Gulli and District 2 Councilman Mark McGrath were each endorsed by the committee, though a fourth incumbent, John Donohue in District 6, was passed over for one of four political neophytes on the GOP ticket. Joining Mantello, Gulli and McGrath on the Republican slate are Jamie Magur in District 3, Stacey Sadowski in District 4, John VanAlstyen in District 5 and Jeffrey Belschwinder in District 6.

Magur, who owns and operates the Troy Grooming Co. on River Street, was chosen to succeed Bodnar. Magur and his wife, Amy, have also invested in the Collar City, having bought and renovated three buildings in the past two years.

A graduate of Our Lady of Victory, Catholic Central High School and Manhattan College, Magur grew up in his grandmother’s popular restaurant, Connie’s Coffee Break, appreciates all the city has to offer and is eager to continue the city’s recent growth.
