Well, they’re doubling down on Afghanistan yet again.
The war is pointless and unwinnable, and in any case the people waging it never actually deign to explain to us what their war aims actually are.
With Vietnam, there were certain factors at work that would eventually bring U.S. involvement to an end: substantial American casualties, constant media coverage, massive opposition to the draft (which is what drove the antiwar movement), and so on.
With those factors absent in Afghanistan, where is the momentum going to come from to bring it to an end?
It’s a question I can’t answer, unfortunately. Not to say there isn’t an answer, but I don’t know what it is.
The good news is, our friend Scott Horton, a one-man libertarian foreign-policy think tank, just released his new book, Fool’s Errand: Time to End the War in Afghanistan.
We discussed it today. Please find the time: http://www.tomwoods.com/981

My fondest wish for a DJT45 Presidency was that he would be the “peace candidate” that Ron Paul would have been.
A pragmatic businessman should realize the concept of “sunken cost”. We’re talking a lost “cause”. The USSR broke up on it. As did the British Empire. When will we learn that the Swiss have the correct “foreign policy”.
So sad. More young girls and boys put at risk for a failed strategy and tactics to match.
