Eugene was a resident of Metuchen, New Jersey at the time of passing.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 9:00am – 10:00am at The Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue (Rt. 27), Metuchen(costello-runyon.com) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15am at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, 32 Elm Ave., Metuchen, followed by the inurnment at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen. Eugene Reilly

Metuchen – Eugene (Gene) Francis Reilly, 82 of Metuchen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Beloved husband of 53 years to the late Elizabeth (Farese) Reilly and loving father to William Reilly and his wife Sue, Marybeth Van Winter and her husband Robert, Lisa Reilly and her partner Don Doucette. He was the loving grandfather to Robert and his wife Jacqueline, Nicholas, Caroline, Andrew and Benjamin and leaves behind a sister, Rose O’Shea. He was predeceased by his brother William O’Reilly and sister Virginia Marie (Reilly) Cirenza.

Gene and his wife, Liz, relocated to Metuchen, NJ from New York, NY in 1963. Gene was the son of the late William and Mary (O’Connell) Reilly.

Born in the Bronx, NY, Gene graduated Cardinal Hayes High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College, a Masters of Engineering from The City University of New York, attended Yale University where he received a Transportation Engineering Certificate and completed a mid-career fellowship at Princeton University.

Gene’s engineering career began at the Port Authority of NY and NJ. After that he worked for the NJ Department of Transportation, assuming a variety of roles, retiring after 25 years as the Director of Research and Development. He was an avid supporter and volunteer at Covenant House, St. Francis Cathedral, JFK Medical Center, Friends of the Metuchen Public Library and Metuchen Senior Center.
