Joe Pintauro, who made the unusual career switch from priest to playwright and whose works were staged by the Circle Repertory Company in New York and numerous regional theaters, died on May 29 at his home in Sag Harbor, N.Y. He was 87.

Mr. Pintauro grew up in Queens, where he attended John Adams High School, and in East Northport, on Long Island. At Manhattan College in the Bronx, where he earned a bachelor’s degree, he studied business and marketing but also nurtured an interest in writing, contributing articles to the college’s newspaper and poetry to its quarterly journal.

Good Morning All,

George Skau shared the news of the death of Fellow Jasper, Joe Pintauro ’54 BA of Sag Harbor, N.Y. Joe was called home on May 29,, 2018. Joe was an Ordained Priest for ten years assigned to the Diocese of Brooklyn (before leaving the Priesthood), a successful Sag Harbor Playwright and a man loved and respected by many. The following Obituary and comments speak to some of his accomplishments. Funeral Services for Joe were held on June 6, 2018 at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Sag Harbor. A Memorial Service will also be held in Manhattan at a later date.
