Alfred Del Vecchio, White Plains’ longest serving mayor, dies at 95

WHITE PLAINS — Alfred Del Vecchio, who led White Plains through what at the time was the second-largest urban renewal program in the country and served as mayor for 18 years, died Tuesday morning. He was 95.

A former engineering professor at Manhattan College and head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Del Vecchio’s desk at City Hall was usually buried under blueprints, technical papers and building designs.

From Jasper Jottings, our prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Former Professor, Alfred Del Vecchio.Dr. Del Vecchio, an institution in Manhattan College Engineering, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Mayor of White Plains, N.Y. for 18 years, was called home on December 4, 2018. Some of us remember Professor Del Vecchio well from our time at Manhattan. We pray for him, his Wife of 73 years, Clair, their 7 Children (one of their children predeceased him), 17 Grand Children and 9 Great Grand Children as the Famiky mourn the loss of their loved one. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sunday, December 9 at 10:00 AM, Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 920 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, N.Y.
