I am (again) creating a “Jasper” — alumni of manhattan college — wiki for articles about out alumni that don’t make the cut in wikipedia.
I’d like to use all the features that I find in Wikipedia. I’m not sure that is exactly possible; I may have to copy over some of the templates they use.
For example, I wrote a Wikipedia page about “John Fandel”, a manhattan college teacher who had some fame as a poet. It was rejected as “not noteworthy enough” despite having a “dead” reference on several pages.
So, I’d like to put it on my “Jasper Wiki”.
I tried once already on a mediawiki on BlueHost and within two weeks the site was destroyed by Chinese hackers.
The way I read the CIVIHOSTING offering, they will install and secure it for me if I subscribe. I can do the content and they make sure it’s safe.
Of course, it’ll be “small potatoes” in terms of usage but I’d am going to try again.
At some point in time, perhaps the manhattan college alumni office would like to take it over but that’s a long way off. By using a well know platform, if and when Alma Mater decides to take it over it would be easy.
Of course, this will die with me.
But if we can get others to participate as content creators, perhaps we can make it into something.
I already have a lot of info on Jaspers in Jasper Jottings, so it should be “fun”.
As always your thoughts, contributions, and participation is welcome and invaluable.
Details to follow.

Outstanding idea, jottings is the best source of alumni information about who we are, what we do and how exhibit our Jasper traditions
Go for it, John
[JR: Thanks jasper wiki.com is up and I’m working on it now.]
