A row has erupted between two senior Irish Catholic church leaders over the treatment of those who support the new abortion legislation.

Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh Eamon Martin have clashed as the abortion debate intensifies. Eamon Martin is newly appointed and will be Ireland’s top clergyman when he takes over from Cardinal Sean Brady in a year.

The Irish Independent reports that their sharp disagreement is the first sign of division among senior clerics.

The Dublin Archbishop spoke after Archbishop Eamon Martin warned that politicians who knowingly introduced legislation ‘aiding and abetting abortion’ should not approach a priest looking for communion.

Archbishop Eamon Martin said that legislators who supported abortion were excommunicating themselves.

He said: “You cannot regard yourself as a person of faith and support abortion.

“If a legislator comes to me and says, ‘Can I be a faithful Catholic and support abortion?’ I would say no. Your communion is ruptured if you support abortion.

“You are excommunicating yourself. Any legislator who clearly and publicly states this should not approach looking for communion.”

In response Archbishop Diarmuid Martin told the paper he does not want to see the sacrament of communion being used ‘for publicity reasons’ by anybody in the debate surrounding abortion.

If Holy Mother Church’s Leadership can’t agree to defend “the brand”, what hope does the Church have?

Sorry, but if you can’t enforce doctrinal discipline, then scratch “bad example” as a sin.

If “we” believe some thing is sacred, like life, then how do we rationalize this “controversy”.

I don’t pretend to be a saint, but when I move to NH and run for office, (Lord willing), I’ll defend life.

ENDNOTE: Cardinals should lead!

Cardinal joins protest over Boston College commencement honor for Irish leader
CWN – May 10, 2013

Responding to protests by a lay Catholic activist group in Massachusetts, Boston’s Cardinal Sean O’Malley has denounced plans by Boston College to award an honorary degree to Irish prime minister Enda Kenny.

Kenny is scheduled to be the principal speaker at Boston College commencement exercises on May 20. The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts had urged Catholics to oppose the invitation to Kenny, and to express their concerns to officials at the Jesuit- run school, to Jesuit superiors, and to Boston’s Cardinal Sean O’Malley.

It’s about time!

Now how about all the CINO politicians!

Revoke their right to proclaim that they are “Catholic” if they vote for abortion.

That’s for a start.

The Church should tell them how to vote, but should vigorously and publicly object to them labeling themselves as “Catholic”.

I’ve been to Funeral Masses where the Priest will take time to gently, politely, and lovingly explain to the Congregation about Communion and what it means. Should they do any less for the CINO politicians.

Burns my butt. I’m a sinner; we all are. I just don’t proclaim that I’m a saint.

POSITRACTION: To oppose the HHS mandate

Virginia official: going to jail may be strategy against HHS mandate
CWN – January 11, 2013

Ken Cuccinelli, a pro-life Catholic who serves as Virginia’s attorney general, has told a radio show host that going to jail may be an effective strategy to oppose the HHS mandate.

“Abraham Lincoln has many good quotes, but one of them is ‘The best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it vigorously,’” said Cuccinelli, a gubernatorial candidate. Going to jail would “provide an example of what tyranny means when it’s played to its logical conclusion.”

[JR: Well, we are going to find out who has “huevos muchos grande”! Think of the Civil Rights leaders of the 60’s and what they endured to insist on their human rights. Will “Catholics” be found wanting? Will others of “good will” join, if for no other reason than to preserve their First Amendment rights? Will Holy Mother Church finally discipline CINO politicians? Will this be the battle that turns us away from the “Secular Progressive” view of the world and return us to the great American experiment? Or is this the end! What brings people to the streets? I don’t know. ]
